Sgt Dunbar & the Hobo Banned w/ Ramona Cordova at Grand Street Arts

*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
March, 26, 2008. Albany, NY - *Sgt. Dunbar & The Hobo Banned with Ramona Cordova at Grand Street Community Arts*

When: June 28th 8pm
Where: Grand Street Arts Community Arts
64 Grand Street
Albany, NY 12202
Price: 7$

On Saturday June 28th Grand Street Community Arts hosts – My Friend Ramon. Sgt Dunbar & the Hobo Banned, Ramona Cordova, Francois Virot, and We are Jeneric offer a night of sweaty and beautiful indie-freak-psych-pop-folk music.

Sgt Dunbar & the Hobo Banned, Albany's Elephant 6 inspired indie folk music collective will be headlining the night recently back from their first festival experience at this year's Mountain Jam Festival. A staple of Albany's indie music scene they have been compared successfully to the salvation army band on acid.

Ramona Cordova is a project which was started in the fall of 2005 by Ramón Vicente Alarcón a former resident of the Hudson Valley. For the past few years Ramón has been traveling the world playing his music. His first release The Boy Who Floated Freely is a beautiful and thoughtful fairly tale inspired by tales told to him as a child by his grandmother.

Francois Virot, hails from the distant Lyon, France and has been called one man who sounds like Frank Black and Brian Wilson singing a duet. Francis Virot is currently touring with Ramona Cordova.

Lastly but not leastly We Are Jeneric of Altamont, NY will be making an all to rare appearance away from their haunted home. Described as "melodically mind-blowing" and "like… an old funeral parlor… surrounded by melting candles shoved inside old wine bottles, clocks that don't tell time, and great big giant mirrors taken from grand but abandoned train stations," We are Jeneric has honed their distinctive sound while dabbling in a dizzying array of musical styles.

Proceeds from this show will benefit GSCA's neighborhood based events and programming.

“In the Parlor With the Moon” Press Release

We are Jeneric

Title:In the Parlor With the Moon

Release date: 26 April, 2008

Label: B3nson Records

Format: CD LP

RIYL: Devendra Banhart, Nick Drake, the Bowerbirds.

The new album from We are Jeneric is their second official B3nson release. Recorded entirely in the month of February 2008 for the RPM Challenge, (http://www.rpmchallenge.com/) the storybook songs on the self-recorded and produced In the Parlor With the Moon showcase the chameleonic vocals of Eric Krans and Jen O’Connor, whose multi-instrumental musicianship brings an epic nature to this collection. Violin, nylon stringed guitars, brass, natural imagery, and symphonic percussion evoke with passion and charm the theme of In the Parlor With the Moon; hopeful arrivals and the sadness of leaving.

Described as “melodically mind-blowing” and “like… an old funeral parlor… surrounded by melting candles shoved inside old wine bottles, clocks that don’t tell time, and great big giant mirrors taken from grand but abandoned train stations,” We are Jeneric has honed their distinctive sound while dabbling in a dizzying array of musical styles.

The Thing About Time

Sgt Dunbar & the Hobo Banned
B3007

The Thing About Time delves into the nooks and crannies of time itself. This new release by Sgt Dunbar & the Hobo Banned is officially their third release, but the first to feature their current 7 piece onstage lineup. It features six multi-instrumentalists playing a style of psych-folk that has become synonymous with Sgt Dunbar, and vocalist Alex Muro using every inch of his vocal chords to relay to you an epiphany he stumbled upon.

Described as “a freight train of a band that will knock you down and help you up again before you hit the ground” and “a magical, music circus with accordion, saw, exuberance and wit”, Sgt Dunbar & the Hobo Banned have been narrowing in on a loose but purposeful multilayered sound over the years, and they have accomplished it here on the self-recorded and produced The Thing About Time.

Selected by Albany's Times Union as one of the best local albums of the year.
